Biography of the artist (David J. Coleman)
-
A full-time potter and artist for over 20 years,
David J. Coleman creates high quality, functional
pottery and one-of-a-kind artworks. At his studio
in the southern Adirondacks, his works are inspired
by the landscapes and animals of the Adirondack
mountains.
All through David's youth, he loved art and
working with his hands. While studying art at SUNY
Potsdam, he discovered pottery and loved it. David
graduated from Potsdam in 1979 with a BFA and
majors in painting and pottery.
In 1981, Sharon and David established Fawn Ridge
Pottery at its present location. They started
selling pottery at various arts and crafts shows.
The studio and shop opened soon after that to the
public and is available to the passing shopper, who
is looking the highest quality hand-thrown pottery
that one can buy.
David's work is now sold here online as well as
at the Fawn Ridge Pottery studio-shop, many fine
quality craft stores, and select arts and crafts
shows that he attends.
David has been refining and expanding his skills
with clay for 20 years. His pottery is remarkably
light, yet durable and totally functional, as well
as finely crafted and aesthetically pleasing. From
his hand-painted, beautiful, natural scenes to the
flowing-glaze designs that he uses on his
stoneware, his pottery is unique and coveted by
those who know and purchase his work time and time
again.
David also loves to design and produce unique
clay sculptures and garden decorations. These
whimsical items not only look great in the garden
but are one-of-a-kind creations that are a joy to
own. David's ceramic sculptures and garden
decorations are highly prized by those who have
been fortunate enough to own some of these
specialty items.
